Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have my carpets cleaned?

Carpets are an expensive investment and if cared for will last many years.
Regular vacuuming does not remove all the soil that builds up in a carpet pile and over time this will act like sandpaper on the carpet fibres and provide a breeding ground for bacteria.
Regular  professional cleaning will extract most of this soiling and therefore extend the life of the carpet and keep it looking its best.
Regular cleaning is particularly important for some allergy sufferers, including many of the 5.2 million people who have asthma.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

Depending on the amount of wear and tear, your carpets should be cleaned approximately every 12 to 18 months.
For heavy traffic areas this might be shorter.

I have my own domestic cleaner or hire one from the local supermarket?

These machines are ok for  removing fresh stains and light soiling but they do not have the powerful vacuum that a profesional carpet cleaning machine does, to ensure that the maximum amount of soiling is removed from deep in the pile.
The vacuum will also affect the amount of water extracted from the carpet and you may find that a domestic machine will leave your carpets damper.
Finally, the chemicals available on the domestic market are not as efficient at breaking down soiling as those available to professional cleaners.

Are all of your products environmentally friendly?

We make every effort to ensure that every cleaning product we use has a minimal impact on the environment.
Of course, all products will have some form of impact, either directly or indirectly.
We are confident that the products we use are the best that are currently available but we continue to research new products and will always consider better alternatives.

Can environmentally friendly products achieve the same results as conventional ones?

CLEANER AND GREENER CARPET CLEANING has, from the outset, been concerned with environmental issues and has never used conventional cleaning products.
From the feedback we have received from our customers, we know our products  provide excellent results.

Which products do you use?

At the heart of our range of products used is a plant based solution called 'M-Power'.
This is a revolutionary cleaning agent which is fully biodegradeable and provides outstanding cleaning results.

Will this cost more?

Our prices are very competitive.
Our pricing structure is on our websitre and we always agree a price with you before we commence any work.

Can you clean any carpet or upholstery fabric and remove any stain?

It would be wonderful to say 'yes' to this question but in reality we cannot perform miracles (although we are often asked to!).
There are some fabrics that we are unable to clean, including suede and silk.
Certain carpets, including high quality woven Wiltons and Axminsters, need to be treated with great care to prevent shrinkage during the cleaning process.
Successful stain removal will depend on the type of stain, the material that has been stained and how long the stain has been in situ.
Stains that have had previously tackled, by well meaning but inexperienced persons, can actually be locked into the material.
Hot water and well known retail 'stain removers' can be your worst enemies.
We will always survey your carpet or upholstery before we commence work and highlight any problems that may arise.
It is impossible to wash away wear and tear but it is amazing what can be achieved using good cleaning methods.

Do stain protectors stop your carpets and upholstery from getting dirty?

Stain protectors work in a similar manner to non-stick surfaces on baking tins and help prevent stains and soil from adhering to the fibres of the carpet or fabric. However you still have to wash your tins and in much the same way, your carpets and upholstery will still need regular attention to maintain their appearance.
If you have any items that are already protected then remember that this will wear off in time and needs to be reapplied at regular intervals.

Stain First Aid

Do
  • Scrape up any solid material working towards the centre of the stain.
  • Use a white cotton or paper towel to absorb the stain.
  • Keep changing the towel and apply firm pressure but don't be tempted to  rub or scrub.
  • Contact ourselves for advice.

Don't

  • Use any commercial stain removing product without reading the instructions fully    as these products can make the stains permanent.
  • Use any coloured towels as the dye may bleed into the carpet or fabric.

  • Use hot water as this can make the stain impossible to remove.
  • Use heat to dry the stained area
  • Scrub the stain

Consider using the following natural products

  • Baking soda for tea and coffee stains
  • White vinegar for mould, mildew and urine
  • Lemon juice for oily and greasy stains
  • Salt for blood and red wine(pour generous amount on and let it absorb stain)
